I moved about half of Chapter 3 to a spot later in the book, and rewrote the remains around it. The chapter that remains is a bit shorter than I’d like, but I’m not seeing any obvious way to remedy it, so it’s done for now. We’ll see what happens when I drop the other section back in.

Stuff I’m writing.
Oh well…
I never managed to make it back to the book today, but I do feel like the day was fairly productive, which is a rarity for a weekend. Denise managed to find my missing stack of notecards (thanks!), so I’m ready to dive in tomorrow.
Chapter 2 Revised
I got 24 pages revised. Not great, but it’s a start. That covers up to the end of Chapter 2. I removed a large section that was slowing things down.
I hoped to do more, but there a large section of Chapter 3 that needs to be moved to a later chapter, and I can’t find my stack of notecards for it. That’ll teach me to clean my desk! Hopefully I’ll get more time this afternoon and tackle the next bit. For now I’ve read it over so I can bounce it around in my head while doing other things.
Let’s get to work…
I set the alarm for 5 today so I could get some work done on the book before the family is up and about. Took me a bit to clear my head and catch up on email and such, but I’m diving in now. Wish me luck!
Busy…
It’s been a rough time since I last posted. My day job has changed again in ways I don’t fully comprehend yet (although so far, so good). My youngest daughter has been ill and after a trip to the ER and numerous doctor’s visits and sleepless nights we now have the pleasure of pinning her down to take nasty tasting antibiotics twice a day for the foreseeable future. She’s doing better now, and that is, of course, what matters. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to writing every day again soon.
Started Revisions
I started on my revisions today. I got 1,656 words. Not a bad start.
Reading It
I finally started reading through the print out of the book. I hope to get through two chapters a day, but family and work are keeping me pretty busy. It’s interesting to see hints of threads that I completely forgot about. Someone else reading it may miss them, but now I have to decide weather to expand them back in, or remove them completely.
The First Draft
Things are still pretty busy here, but I did find the time to print out my first draft. It’s an interesting feeling holding the book in my hands. For one thing it weighs a lot more that I would have thought.
What’s up with all these posts?
So most of you who know me, know we’re waiting for something big. It still hasn’t happened. I don’t want to start any more work on my novel until after it happens. In the mean time I’ve had a bit of free time, so I’ve been trying to keep on top of things around here while I can. One I do get back to writing I’m hoping to revise at least one of my short stories before diving into Novel work again. We’ll see.
First Draft Finished!
I can’t believe it. The first draft of the novel is done. I started writing the draft from my outline on 07/13/2004, meaning it took 340 days to get here, but it’s done.
Now I need to put it away for a bit before coming back to start the rewrite.
Phew!
Update: Final word count on the first draft was 108,840 (which was 563 pages).
